Black Friday Email Marketing for Shopify: Campaign Ideas, Examples and Subject Lines (2026)

Executive Summary
- Email is usually the most profitable Black Friday channel for Shopify brands, because you’re selling to people who already know you.
- A good Black Friday email campaign starts in mid-November with teasers and early access, then runs through Cyber Monday with launch, reminder and last-chance emails.
- Before the sale, turn on your welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment and post-purchase flows, since they do a lot of the selling on their own.
- Clean your list, authenticate your sending domain and watch your spam complaints, or your best offer will land in the promotions or spam folder.
Every November, the same thing happens to inboxes. On Monday they’re normal. By Thursday night, there are forty emails with “BLACK FRIDAY” in the subject line, and half of them look exactly the same.
So the question isn’t really whether to send Black Friday emails. You should. Your list is full of people who already like you, and you don’t pay per click to reach them. The question is how to send ones that actually get opened and bought from, when everybody else is shouting at the same time.
This is the Black Friday email marketing plan we’d use for a Shopify store this year. Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30, so there’s still time to get it all set up.
Why Email Matters So Much on Black Friday
Paid ads get expensive in late November. Everyone’s bidding on the same audiences, and costs climb all week.
Email doesn’t work like that. Whether you send to 2,000 people or 20,000, the cost barely moves. And the people on your list have already bought from you, or at least raised their hand and said “tell me about deals.” That’s a much warmer crowd than a stranger scrolling past an ad.
Plenty of brands treat email as an afterthought and spend weeks on their ads instead. Flip that. Get your email sorted first, then use paid ads on Google and Meta to reach new people.
Step 1: Grow and Clean Your List Now
The emails you send in late November can only reach people who are already on your list. So the next few weeks are about growing it.
Put up a simple early access offer on your site. Something like “Sign up and get first access to our Black Friday sale, 24 hours before everyone else.” People who sign up for that are telling you they’re planning to buy. Add the same sign-up to your social bios and your order confirmation emails.
At the same time, tidy up. Remove addresses that bounce, and think about leaving out people who haven’t opened anything from you in six months or more. It feels wrong to send to fewer people. But mailing a lot of unengaged addresses is one of the fastest ways to end up in spam, which would hurt the emails going to your good customers too.
Step 2: Plan Your Black Friday Email Schedule
A good Black Friday email campaign isn’t one big blast on Friday morning. It’s a short story told over about two weeks.
Here’s a schedule that works for most Shopify stores this year:
Mid-November (around Nov 16): The teaser. A short pre-Black Friday email. Something’s coming, here’s roughly when, sign up for early access. Don’t give away the whole offer.
A few days later (around Nov 23): Early access reminder. For people who haven’t signed up yet. This is your last nudge.
Wednesday, Nov 25: VIP early access. Send the sale to your early access list and your best customers first. They feel special, and you get some sales in before inboxes get crazy.
Friday, Nov 27: Launch. The main Black Friday sales email to everyone. Clear offer, clear deadline, big button.
Saturday, Nov 28: Bestsellers or “what’s selling fast.” Show people what everyone else is buying. Low stock warnings work well here, as long as they’re true.
Sunday, Nov 29: Last chance for Black Friday pricing, or a heads-up that Cyber Monday is coming.
Monday, Nov 30: Cyber Monday. A new angle, a different offer, or a final reminder.
Tuesday, Dec 1: Final hours or extension. “Last call” emails often do surprisingly well.
You don’t have to send all of these to everyone. Your most engaged subscribers can handle one a day during sale week. People who barely open can get two or three.

Step 3: Turn On the Flows That Sell for You
Campaigns are the emails you send on purpose, on a date. Flows are the ones that send automatically when someone does something. During Black Friday, flows quietly bring in a lot of revenue, so check they’re all switched on before the sale.
Welcome flow. For everyone who joins your early access list. Thank them, remind them what they signed up for, and tell them when the sale starts.
Abandoned cart. Someone adds to cart and leaves. Black Friday shoppers are comparing tabs, so this one matters even more than usual. Mention the sale and the deadline in it.
Browse abandonment. Someone looked at a product but didn’t add it. A gentle “still thinking about it?” with the product picture.
Post-purchase. Order confirmation, shipping update, delivery check-in. Good updates here also cut down on support tickets. We’ve written about that in our guide to reducing WISMO tickets on Shopify.
Win-back. After the sale, for people who bought once a while ago and haven’t come back.
If you’d rather not build these yourself, our email marketing automation team sets up Black Friday email flows for Shopify brands.

Black Friday Email Subject Lines (20 Ideas)
Subject lines are where most Black Friday emails win or lose. Everyone’s using the same words, so a bit of personality goes a long way. Here are 20 to borrow and adjust.
For teasers and early access
- Something good is coming Friday
- You’re on the list. Here’s what that means
- Psst. Early access opens Wednesday
- We don’t do this often
- Save the date (and your cart)
For launch day
6. It’s here. Up to [X]% off everything
7. Our biggest sale of the year starts now
8. The deal you’ve been waiting for
9. Black Friday is live. Go go go
10. Your early access just turned into everyone’s access
For reminders
11. These are going fast
12. Still thinking about it?
13. You left something in your cart (and it’s on sale)
14. Our bestsellers, at a price we won’t repeat
15. Here’s what everyone’s buying
For last chance and Cyber Monday
16. Last chance. Seriously this time
17. Ends at midnight
18. Cyber Monday: one more day
19. We extended it. But only until tonight
20. Final call before prices go back up
Keep subject lines short so they don’t get cut off on phones, and use the preview text to add the detail.
Black Friday Email Examples and Templates
Here are three simple templates you can adapt. Keep the design clean, the offer obvious and the button big.
Example 1: The teaser email
Subject: Something good is coming Friday
Hi [First name],
We’ve been working on this one for a while. On Friday, November 27, our biggest sale of the year goes live.
Want in early? Join the list and you’ll get access 48 hours before everyone else.
[Button: Get early access]
Example 2: The launch email
Subject: It’s here. [X]% off everything
Hi [First name],
Black Friday is live. For the next four days, everything in the store is [X]% off. No code needed.
Our [bestseller] usually sells out first, so if it’s on your list, don’t wait too long.
[Button: Shop the sale]
Sale ends Monday, November 30 at midnight [time zone].
Example 3: The last chance email
Subject: Ends at midnight
Hi [First name],
Quick one. Our Black Friday sale wraps up tonight at midnight [time zone], and prices go back to normal tomorrow.
Here’s what people have been grabbing most this weekend:
[3 product images with prices]
[Button: Shop before it ends]
A few Black Friday email ideas to keep things fresh: a gift guide for different people (“for the coffee lover,” “for the one who has everything”), a mystery discount, a free gift above a certain cart value, or a behind-the-scenes email from the founder about how the busy week is going. Something that sounds like a real person stands out in a pile of loud sale emails.
Best Time to Send Black Friday Emails
There’s no perfect time that works for every store. But a few things hold up.
Send in your customers’ time zone, not yours. If you sell across the US, UK and Australia, a 9 a.m. send in New York is the middle of the night in Sydney. Most email tools let you schedule by the subscriber’s local time.
Early morning tends to work well on launch day, because people check their phones and plan their shopping. Last chance emails usually work best in the evening, a few hours before the deadline.
And honestly, test it. Look at when your own customers have opened emails in the past. Your data beats any general rule.
How Often Should You Send During Black Friday?
During sale week, once a day is normal for your most engaged subscribers. Some brands go to two on the final day, like a morning reminder and an evening last call.
The key is to split your list. People who open and click often can handle more. People who rarely open should get fewer emails, maybe just launch and last chance. Sending the same daily blast to everyone is how unsubscribes and spam complaints climb.
Once the sale ends, slow down. Go back to your normal schedule, and let people breathe.
How to Keep Your Black Friday Emails Out of Spam
This is the boring part that quietly decides whether any of the above works.
Since 2024, Gmail and Yahoo have required bulk senders to authenticate their sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, include a one-click unsubscribe, and keep spam complaints low. If your email tool or domain isn’t set up properly, your Black Friday emails can end up in spam even if the content is great. Check this now, not on November 26.
A few other things that help:
- Don’t suddenly email people you haven’t contacted in a year
- Warm up slowly if you’re sending a lot more than usual
- Avoid subject lines in all caps or packed with symbols
- Make the unsubscribe link easy to find
- Send from a real name or brand, with a reply address people can actually write to
That last one matters more than it sounds. Black Friday emails get a lot of replies, like “does this work with my code?” or “when will it ship?” Make sure someone’s actually reading them. Our customer service macros for Black Friday can help your team answer quickly.

Which Tool Should You Use for Shopify Email Marketing?
The best Shopify email marketing tool depends on your size and how much you want to automate.
Shopify Email is built into Shopify and is simple to use. It’s fine for basic campaigns and a few automations, especially for smaller stores.
Klaviyo is the one most growing Shopify brands end up on. It’s strong on segmentation, flows and reporting, and pulls in your Shopify data in detail.
Omnisend is another popular choice that combines email and SMS and is often a bit easier on the budget.
Whichever you use, the strategy above works the same way. Don’t switch tools a few weeks before Black Friday unless you really have to.
Black Friday Email Best Practices (Checklist)
- Early access sign-up live on your site
- List cleaned of bounces and long-inactive subscribers
- Sending domain authenticated (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
- Teaser, early access, launch, reminder and last chance emails written
- Subject lines and preview text written for each email
- Welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment and post-purchase flows switched on and updated for the sale
- Sends scheduled in subscribers’ local time zones
- List split by engagement for frequency
- Support team ready to answer email replies
- Post-sale win-back plan ready
After the Sale: Don’t Waste Your New Customers
Black Friday brings in a lot of first-time buyers. Most of them won’t come back unless you give them a reason.
Send a proper thank-you, not another discount. Follow up when their order arrives. Ask for a review. Then, a few weeks later, show them something new. If returns are part of the picture, our post on holiday return policies for Shopify stores covers how to handle them without losing the customer.
And look at the numbers. Which emails made the most money? Which subject lines got opened? Which segments bought? Our analytics and reporting team can pull this into a clear post-sale report, so next year’s plan starts from real data.
For the rest of your sale prep, our Shopify Black Friday checklist covers offers, stock, checkout and support.
