WISMO Tickets: How to Reduce “Where Is My Order” Queries on Shopify (2026)

“Where is my order?” is the question Shopify stores hear most, and most of these tickets can be avoided. Here’s how to cut WISMO with clear delivery dates, a proper tracking page and updates sent before customers ask.
If you run a Shopify store, you know this message by heart. “Hi, where is my order?” Some days it’s polite. Some days it’s all caps and three question marks. And it keeps coming.
In support, we call these WISMO tickets. Where Is My Order. On a quiet week they’re a bit of a nuisance. During Black Friday? They can eat your entire inbox.
But here’s what we’ve noticed after answering thousands of them. Most people asking aren’t angry. They’re just a little nervous. They paid money, got one email, and then heard nothing for days. That’s it. That’s usually the whole story.
So the fix isn’t faster apologies. It’s telling people what’s going on before they have to ask.
What Is a WISMO Ticket?
Pretty much any message about where an order is. “Has it shipped yet?” “When’s it coming?” “Tracking hasn’t moved since Monday.” “It says delivered, but it’s not here.”
For most online stores, this is the biggest pile of tickets by far. It’s also the most repetitive one. The answer is almost always sitting in the courier’s system already. The customer just can’t see it, or has no idea where to look.
Why Customers Keep Asking “Where Is My Order?”
Nine times out of ten, it’s one of these.
Nobody told them when to expect it. No date on the product page, nothing in the confirmation email. So they guess. And people always guess too early.
Then there’s the quiet bit. An order can sit for a day or two before it’s packed and picked up. Totally normal for you. For the customer, it’s just silence, and silence makes people uneasy.
Sometimes the tracking link is the problem. It’s buried halfway down an email. Or it opens a courier page that throws an error. Or it says “label created” for four days and the customer starts to panic.
And now and then, something really does go wrong. The courier’s backed up, there’s a flood, the address is wrong. If the customer finds out before you tell them, that’s when it gets messy.
Sort out those four and you’ve handled most of it.

How to Reduce WISMO Tickets on Shopify
1. Set Clear Delivery Expectations Before Checkout
Honestly, the cheapest place to answer “when will it arrive?” is the product page.
Just say it. “Ships in 1–2 days, usually with you in 3–5.” Most shoppers don’t mind waiting five days. What bugs them is thinking it’ll be two. If you ship abroad or to far-off pin codes, mention that too, right there in the cart.
A short shipping page helps as well. Nothing fancy. How long packing takes, how long delivery takes where, and who to contact if it’s late. Link it from your footer and your order emails, and you’re done.
2. Build a Proper Order Tracking Page
Shopify’s own order status page does the job, sort of. It’s very basic.
What works much better is a tracking page on your own site. The customer pops in their order number or email, and boom, they can see exactly where the parcel is, what’s happened so far, and roughly when it’ll show up. They stay on your store instead of wandering off to some courier site. You can even slip in your return policy or a few bestsellers while they’re there.
There are plenty of apps for this. AfterShip, ParcelPanel and Track123 are ones a lot of stores use. If you ship through Shiprocket or another aggregator in India, have a look at what they already give you before paying for something extra. Whatever you go with, test it on your phone first. That’s where most people will open it.
Oh, and put a “Track Your Order” link in your header or footer. So many stores hide it, and then wonder why customers email instead.

3. Send Updates Before Customers Ask
If you only do one thing from this list, do this one.
Don’t make people check. Tell them. A quick note when the order’s confirmed, another when it’s packed, one when it ships (with the tracking link), one when it’s out for delivery, and a last one when it lands.
Five messages sounds like overkill. It isn’t. Each one quietly answers a question that would otherwise turn into a ticket.
That “packed” message is the sneaky important one, by the way. It covers the awkward gap between paying and shipping, which is exactly when the first “any update??” emails tend to show up.
Getting all of this running across email, SMS and WhatsApp does take some setup. If you’d rather not deal with it, our customer order updates team does it for Shopify brands, so your customers hear from you at every step and your team doesn’t lift a finger.
4. Use the Channels Customers Actually Check
Be honest. When did you last open a shipping email from the promotions tab?
Your customers are the same. In India especially, people read WhatsApp almost straight away, while emails can sit for days. So send the shipping and delivery updates there too, with the tracking link right in the message. If something’s off, they can just reply, which is way easier for them than writing an email. Our WhatsApp Business support service can help you get this set up properly.
5. Make Your Order Emails Actually Useful
Go and open your own shipping confirmation email right now. Where’s the tracking link? If you have to scroll past a discount banner and six “you might also like” products to find it, that’s a problem.
Flip it around. Order number, what’s in the box, expected date, and a big fat “Track your order” button. All at the top. The marketing stuff can live underneath. And add one line saying what’s normal, something like “tracking can take 24 hours to update,” so people don’t panic the first morning.
6. Handle Delays Honestly, and Early
Delays are going to happen. It’s not a question of if.
What matters is who speaks first. If you message the customer before they notice, say what happened, give a new date and a simple sorry, most people are completely fine with it. Leave it, and that same customer sends you three messages and a bad review.
It’s worth having someone check every morning for parcels that haven’t moved in two days. Catch them early, chase the courier, and a lot of the time the customer never even knows there was a problem.
7. Set Up Your Helpdesk to Answer WISMO Fast
No matter how good your updates are, some tickets will still come in. That’s fine. The aim is to answer them in seconds.
Hook your helpdesk up to Shopify so agents see the order and tracking details right inside the ticket. No jumping between tabs. Let it tag order-status questions on its own and send them to the right person. Then write a handful of saved replies for the usual cases, like “on its way,” “running late,” and “says delivered but not here.” Quick, consistent, done.
This is pretty much what our helpdesk setup and automation and macros, tags and workflows services are for. A decent knowledge base and FAQ page helps too, since plenty of customers would rather look it up than wait for a reply.

8. Keep an Eye on Your WISMO Rate
Every week or two, take a quick look. Out of all your orders, how many turned into a “where is it?” ticket?
If that number suddenly goes up, something changed. Maybe you switched couriers. Maybe the warehouse had a slow week. Maybe a tracking link in your emails broke and nobody noticed. There’s usually one obvious reason, and once you spot it, the fix is easy.
If your order and shipping info is scattered across five different tools, this gets hard to see. Our guide on what an order management system is for Shopify explains why pulling it into one place helps, and our ecommerce order management team can run it for you.
WISMO During Black Friday and Peak Season
All of this gets louder in November and December. More orders, slower couriers, and customers who are buying gifts and really want them on time.
So a few weeks before the sale, pad your delivery dates by a couple of days and put the holiday cut-offs somewhere people will see them. Click through your tracking page and order emails yourself, just to be sure nothing’s broken. And make sure there are enough people to answer tickets, weekends included.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does WISMO mean?
It’s short for “Where Is My Order.” Support teams use it for any message where a customer is asking about their order’s status or location.
Why are WISMO tickets so common?
Mostly because customers are left guessing. No clear delivery date, a long gap with no news, or a tracking link they can’t find, and they’ll message you instead.
How do I reduce WISMO tickets on Shopify?
Tell people when to expect their order before they buy, give them a proper tracking page, and send updates at each step. If something’s late, let them know first. And make sure your team can answer order questions quickly when they do come in.
Which channel works best for order updates?
Depends on your customers. In our experience, WhatsApp gets read much faster than email, especially in India, so a lot of brands use both.
Can I outsource WISMO ticket handling?
Yes, and plenty of Shopify brands do, especially in busy months. Our ecommerce customer support page explains how we handle it.
