Black Friday Facebook Ads for Shopify: A Meta and Google Ads Plan That Works (2026)

Executive Summary
- Ad costs rise through November as more brands compete for the same people, so the best time to start your Black Friday ads is weeks before the sale, not on the day.
- Use October and early November to build audiences and test creatives, then spend most of your sale-week budget on people who already know you.
- On Meta, keep targeting broad, feed it plenty of creative and retarget visitors and cart abandoners. On Google, use Shopping or Performance Max, protect your brand searches and track conversions properly.
- Avoid launching brand-new campaigns or jumping budgets overnight during the sale, and make sure your site and support team can handle the extra traffic.
Here’s something we see every year. A Shopify brand spends most of October getting the products, the discount and the emails ready. Then around November 20, someone says, “Okay, let’s turn the ads on.”
And it hurts. The cost per click is way higher than in September. The campaigns are brand new, so Meta is still figuring out who to show them to. The first few days burn through budget with not much to show for it. By the time things settle, Cyber Monday’s already over.
The problem isn’t the ads. It’s the timing. So let’s walk through how we’d actually run Black Friday Facebook ads and Google ads for a Shopify store this year, starting from right now. Black Friday is November 27, and Cyber Monday is November 30.
Why Black Friday Ads Cost So Much More
Ad platforms work like auctions. In late November, pretty much every brand on the planet is bidding for the same shoppers at the same time. More bidders, same number of eyeballs, so prices go up.
You can’t stop that. What you can do is make sure that by the time costs peak, you’re mostly spending money on people who already know your brand. Those people are cheaper to convert, and they’re far more likely to buy on Black Friday than a stranger who’s never heard of you.
That’s really the whole strategy in one line. Find people early, sell to them later.
Your Black Friday Ads Timeline
Now until about November 13: Warm up. Run ads to new audiences, but the goal isn’t sales yet. It’s getting people to visit, watch, follow and, ideally, join your email list or early access list. This is also the time to test creatives, so you know which ones work before the expensive week.
November 14 to 24: Build the buzz. Start teasing the sale. Retarget the people who visited or engaged during the warm-up. Push early access sign-ups hard.
November 25 to 30: Sell. Your biggest spend goes here, mostly on warm audiences: past visitors, cart abandoners, email subscribers, past buyers. Keep some prospecting running, but don’t expect cold traffic to carry the week.
December 1 to around the 18th: Gift season. Ads shift to gift ideas and shipping deadlines. “Order by December 18 for Christmas delivery” is a strong message.
After the holidays: Bring buyers back. Retarget the new Black Friday customers with something other than another discount, like new arrivals or a loyalty perk.

Get Your Tracking Right First
None of this works if your ad platforms can’t see who’s buying.
For Meta, connect your store through Shopify’s Facebook and Instagram app, and make sure the Conversions API is switched on, not just the browser pixel. Browser tracking misses a lot of purchases these days because of ad blockers and privacy settings. The Conversions API sends purchase data from Shopify’s side, so Meta gets a much fuller picture.
For Google, the Google and YouTube app connects your product feed to Merchant Center and helps set up Shopify Google Ads conversion tracking. Double-check that purchases are recording with the right value, not just page views.
Then place a real test order and confirm it shows up in both. This takes twenty minutes and saves you from optimizing toward the wrong thing for the most expensive week of the year.
Running Shopify Ads on Facebook and Instagram
Meta is where most Shopify brands spend the bulk of their Black Friday budget. A few things matter more than anything else.
Keep targeting broad. Meta’s system is much better at finding buyers than it used to be, especially with good conversion data. Detailed interest targeting often just makes things more expensive. Let Advantage+ or broad audiences do the work, and focus your energy on creative instead.
Feed it lots of creative. The ad is now the targeting. Different hooks, formats and angles reach different people. Have a mix ready: short videos, product carousels, static images, customer reviews, a founder talking to camera.
Retarget properly. Set up separate ads for people who visited the site, people who viewed products, people who added to cart, and your email list. These warm audiences are where most Black Friday sales come from.
Don’t keep fiddling. New campaigns and big edits send Meta back into its learning phase, where results are shaky. Get campaigns live and stable before the sale, then make small changes instead of big ones.
Raise budgets gradually. Jumping a budget from $100 to $1,000 overnight can throw delivery off. Increase in steps over a few days leading into the sale.
Running Black Friday Google Ads
Google works differently. On Meta you’re interrupting someone’s scroll. On Google, they’re already looking for something.
Shopping and Performance Max. For most Shopify stores, these do the heavy lifting. Make sure your product feed in Merchant Center is clean, with sale prices updated and good product titles. Add your Black Friday offer as a promotion in Merchant Center so it shows on your listings.
Protect your brand searches. During Black Friday, competitors may bid on your brand name. A small brand search campaign makes sure people who search for you actually find you first.
Watch your budgets daily. Search volume spikes over the weekend. If a campaign hits its daily budget by noon, you’re missing afternoon and evening shoppers.
Use ad schedules and shipping messages. In December, update ad copy with clear delivery cut-offs.
Best Black Friday Facebook Ads: Ideas That Work
Every feed is full of “BLACK FRIDAY SALE 30% OFF” in big letters that weekend. The ads that stand out usually have a bit more personality. Some Black Friday ad ideas worth trying:
The real-customer video. A customer showing the product and saying why they love it. Shot on a phone. These often beat polished studio ads, because they feel real.
The gift guide. “For the dad who’s impossible to buy for.” Groups products by who they’re for, which helps people who are shopping for someone else.
The bundle. Two or three products together at a set price. Higher order value, and it feels like a better deal.
The founder ad. The founder talking to camera about the sale, why they’re doing it, or what’s selling fast. Simple, personal, and surprisingly effective for smaller brands.
The countdown. “Ends tonight.” Works best in retargeting, close to the deadline.
The shipping deadline. In December: “Order by the 18th to get it before Christmas.”
For Black Friday banner ads on Google Display or your own site, keep them simple: one product, one offer, one deadline, plenty of space.

How Much Should You Spend on Shopify Ads?
There’s no single right number. Shopify ads cost depends on your margins, your average order value and how much you’re willing to pay to get a customer.
A sensible way to think about it: work out the most you can spend to get one order and still make money, then set a daily budget that gives the campaigns enough room to get results. Meta’s learning phase works best with around 50 conversions a week per ad set, so tiny budgets spread across lots of campaigns usually don’t learn much.
During the sale, many brands put the majority of their budget into warm audiences, like retargeting and past customers, and a smaller share into reaching new people. That split depends on how big your warm audience is. If your list is small, you’ll need more prospecting earlier in the season.
Mistakes That Waste Black Friday Ad Budget
Launching brand-new campaigns on Black Friday morning. They won’t have time to learn.
Sending ad traffic to your homepage instead of a sale collection or product page. Make the click land somewhere useful.
Ignoring your landing page. A slow product page or a clunky checkout will waste every dollar you spend getting people there. Our conversion rate optimization team can help fix this before the sale.
Promising delivery dates you can’t hit. Your ads say “arrives before Christmas,” your courier doesn’t agree, and now your inbox is full.
Forgetting about customer service. More ads mean more visitors, and more visitors mean more questions on chat and email. If no one answers, those clicks don’t turn into sales. Our guide to ecommerce live chat for Black Friday covers how to handle that.

Do You Need a Shopify Ads Agency?
Not always. Plenty of brands run their own Black Friday ads well, especially if they’ve done it before and have the time.
It’s worth getting help if you’re new to Meta or Google ads, if your team is already stretched with product, stock and support, or if you’ve spent a lot on ads before without clear results. A good Shopify ads agency should be able to explain what they’ll do, show you how they’ll measure success, and give you access to your own ad accounts. If they won’t, keep looking.
Our paid ads management team runs Google and Meta campaigns for Shopify brands, and works alongside your email marketing so ads and emails support each other instead of competing.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I start my Black Friday Facebook ads?
Ideally four to six weeks before Black Friday, starting with warm-up campaigns that build audiences. Then shift budget to retargeting and sale ads closer to the date.
Are Facebook ads or Google ads better for Black Friday?
Most Shopify brands use both. Meta is great for reaching new people and retargeting, while Google Shopping catches people who are already searching for products like yours.
How much do Shopify ads cost?
It depends on your industry, margins and competition. Costs usually rise in November. Work out how much you can pay per order and still profit, then budget from there.
How do I advertise on Shopify?
Connect your store to Meta through the Facebook and Instagram app and to Google through the Google and YouTube app. Then set up tracking, create campaigns in each platform and point them to your product or sale pages.
Can I get sales on Shopify without ads?
Yes. Email marketing, SEO, social media and word of mouth can all drive sales. For Black Friday, your email list is often the most profitable channel of all.
Should I hire a Shopify ads agency for Black Friday?
If you’re new to paid ads or your team is short on time, an agency can help. Make sure they give you full access to your ad accounts and clear reporting.
Start Your Black Friday Ads Before Everyone Else Does
The brands that win on Black Friday ads usually aren’t the ones with the biggest budgets. They’re the ones who started early, built warm audiences and had their tracking sorted before costs went up.
